Fly Fish Nevada is a team effort. Dan does all the work, pays for all the gas and food, does all the driving, unties all the wind knots and does all the writing. The other members of the team…uh…well, they show up now and then. It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. Anyway, here’s team FFN:
Dan is the owner of Fly fish Nevada. He retired from the Nevada Department of Transportation in July of 2010, hence the increase in blog activity. Dan enjoys fly fishing (duh!), playing the guitar, smoking cigars, drinking beer and scotch and other assorted legal, but frowned upon, hobbies.
Dan has been fishing since he was a we tyke and took up fly fishing in 1993. He mainly fishes for trout, but will through a fly at anything given the chance. His favorite fish is the Lahontan cutthroat. His favorite fly is the bead head hare’s ear. He also prefers brunettes.
Jen doesn’t do much fishing, mainly because Dan is such a horrible instructor. However, she loves to come along on FFN outings when the opportunity presents itself. She picks flowers, reads her trashy romance novels and sunbathes nude while Dan fishes (just kidding…the novels aren’t trashy;)
Jen loves to bake cookies, scrapbook, watch General Hospital and do pilates (whatever that is). Her favorite fish is Nemo, you know, from that movie? Her favorite fly is that pretty green one.
Henry is the eldest son and one fine teenager. He’s moody, surly and emotional. Henry has been fishing for about ten years and took up the fly rod when he was about 12 years old. Despite Dan’s constant reminders, Henry still refuses to stop on his back cast.
Henry also plays the guitar and is one heck of an athlete, playing football, basketball and baseball. He likes camping, hunting and doing his chores…no, not really. Henry’s favorite fish is anything raw rolled up with rice and seaweed. His favorite fly is the exact opposite of the one his dad, Dan, suggests.
Last, but not least, is Owen. Owen was born the same year, 1998, FFN first hit the world wide web, which has no significance whatsoever. Owen switched to the long rod recently and caught his first fish on the fly in 2010. He is justifiably proud of that accomplishment. See! Look at that smile.
Owen loves camping, playing basketball and video games. He really loves video games and he is scary good, often finishing a $60 PS3 game in less time than it took to buy the darn thing. Owen’s favorite fish is currently the ferocious tiger trout. His favorite fly is the orange butt peacock elk hair caddis, the fly he caught that tiger on.

Dan,
I will be in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks for a convention. I get done on a Thursday, and would like to hightail it out of town for 2 days of fishing. The only thing I have found is Cliff Dwellers Lodge in Marble Canyon Arizona and Lee’s Ferry. I would prefer a guide, don’t care if we float or wade, and will need a hotel/restaurant (can’t bring camping gear). Any suggestions? Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

I don’t get down that way too often for fishing. If you want something a little different head up US 93 and check out some of the waters there. the bass fishing at Pahranaget is probably getting good about now and their is probably some decent fishing for trout in some of the reservoirs up that way, maybe even the creeks. Check the NDOW website for some better info. You might want to check in the fly shop over at Bass pro Shops in Vegas for info and a lead on guides.
I am an old retired geezer. 75 but in good shape. Live in Auburn CA. Have fished the East Walker a couple of times and really like it. I am heading south to my daughter’s wedding reception next week (about Nov 1) and plan to stop in Bridgeport and spend a day fishing the Walker. That is if the weather cooperates. Big early storm here in Auburn today.
