Were going the anti inflammatory and physical therapy route for now. I do have some compressed discs and some arthritis. I hope this works. My untrained eye thought it saw a bulging disk in the x-ray, but what do I know? I trust my orthopedic guy. He’s worked on every member of my family and always done a great job. I will discuss options for surgery, including a specialist, with him when and if necessary. Luckily, I can still float tube. If the weather would cooperate I might even try it.

I can tell you from personal experience you have a bulging or herniated disk. Your better off with a neurologist who specializes in back surgeries

Bob, it all depends on the winter. As it stands now, there is precious little snow. Unless that changes, the high country might be open early. Streams might be fishable. If the winter gets nasty and we get some snow, count on the high country being socked in and the streams and rivers being high. You’re best bet is the East Walker. It’s a tailwater so not a lot of run off concerns. lower elevation lakes, mostly drive to, would be good bets. Try Convict, Mammoth Lakes, maybe Virginia lake, Highway 88. If you have tubes it would help. You could also give some of the lakes around Truckee a try. Keep an eye on the snow pack and that will give you a better idea.

Thanks! Yeah, its a nice stream. One of the best, but I might be biased. I need to get down to the Owens one of these days. Fished there once, but didn’t do any good.

Great post I really like the East Fork, this was the first year I was able to get up there. I might start fishing there more often then I fish Upper Owens.

Hey Alex, I remember you. Glad to hear you got up to the states and did some fishing! Reno, in most years, is fantastic in September. I’d try the Truckee River between the town of Truckee and Reno. The Little Truckee River should be doing well also. Further way, try the East Carson or East Walker rivers. Really, that time of year, you can’t go wrong. If the water is low, the cooler temps help get the fish feeding and if the winter was severe, like last year, the flows should be in good shape by September. Let me know when it gets closer and I should be able to let you know some specific info on conditions.

Dan, how are you doing?
Hey, my name is Alex (from Brazil). I use to follow your blogs since early this year. I am not sure if you remember me, but I was planning a tripo to Reno and later to Montana for some flyfishing. I made it! Last August I have spent around 4 days in reno and a whole week in MT.
I have gone with 2 brazilian friends and an american who lives in Carson City.
Well, I will try to flyfish MT again and this american friend wants to go there again! LOL… well, if he can go, we’ll do it next Sept.2012… And I also want to spend more days in Reno.
The point is that I’d like to flyfish Nevada and, maybe, California, near Reno… But, can you tell me HOW is fishing there early Sept? Which rivers you’d suggest me?

You’re out of luck immediately around Las Vegas. However, if you don’t mind driving a few hours there are excellent streams in southern Utah and eastern Nevada. For Nevada go to NDOW.org and look under fishing and you will find information on waters in the area. For Utah, well Google is you friend. Hope you find something and good luck.
