So, how did I end up at Lamoille Canyon again? Henry, my oldest son, had a football game in Owyhee, Nevada on Saturday. Not to many overnight accommodations in Owyhee, so Jen, the wife, and I stayed in Elko on Friday night. she had never seen Lamoille, so I figured we would go up and check it out. Of course, I brought my fly rod along.
We checked out the canyon and then explored the same ponds we fished on my previous trip there back in August with Henry and Owen. Jen took photos while I fished. While the fish were as active as they were in August, they weren’t as eager to take a fly, at least not the flies I was offering. It was a beautiful evening and the mosquitoes were mostly absent, unlike August. It was too early to catch any fall colors. I only fished about 45 minutes, then we sat on the tailgate and ate dinner. However, I did manage a couple of tigers and and handful of small brookies.
The next day we drove to Owyhee fro the football game. If you want to read more about that, visit my other blog, Being Retired. I will state here for the fishermen in the audience that although I did not fish the Owyhee river, it looked fantastic. I am going to have to get up there and give it a try.

Good report. Ive been planning a trip to fly fish the Elko area for some time and ran accross your site just in time as I leave this weekend. What kind of drive time to Owyhee fro Elko was it?
I also plan to fish the Canyon and a couple of other places orver a course of a week. Thanks
Elko to Owyhee is about 90 miles, but the canyon will make it a two hour drive. Wildhorse Res and and the outlet is a little more than an hour. Not to bad.
Dan,
Great job with the blog! Keep it coming, the month-long breaks are too much to bear for us stuck in the city down in SoCal. The pics are awesome.
Well, right now I am in Dunsmuir, CA fishing the Upper Sac. Posts forthcoming!
